So… podcasts. Yeah, not what I thought I’d be talking about when it comes to SEO. But here we are. Turns out? They work. Big time.
When I started my podcast, I was mostly just trying to get some thoughts out. No huge plan. Just mic, mouth, and a mess of ideas. But later? Things changed. My search traffic bumped. Slowly. Then a little more. Then noticeably.
I ain’t no expert, but lemme walk you through how I think podcasting made my site rank better without feeling like pulling teeth.
Audio Don’t Rank… But Words Do
You record an episode. What do you get? Audio. But that ain’t what Google wants. Google likes words. Text. Keywords. Clarity.
That’s when I figured—I should write down everything I said. Or at least, let some software do it for me. So I started tossing in transcripts. Not perfect ones. Just enough that Google could “see” what I was talking about.
Boom. Pageviews started goin’ up. Weird, right?
Turning Talk Into Blog Magic
I once read somewhere that “repurpose or perish” is the content creator’s golden rule. Might’ve just made that up. Still true.
One of the things I done was takin’ those podcast transcripts, breakin’ ’em down, and turning ‘em into blog articles. Not copy-paste jobs. Real rewrites. Took the core ideas, wrapped ‘em in nice paragraphs, added titles that clicked.
Now I had a blog and a podcast. Double the chances to show up on Google. Who wouldn’t want that?
Stuffing the Player Where It Belongs (Strategically)
Put the podcast player where it matters. Not just at the bottom. I mean up front. Embedded right under the headline or maybe even mid-article if it made more sense there.
When I did this on a few pages? Visitors stayed longer. Like, a lot longer. That time-on-page thing—Google loves that.
Sometimes I add a lil’ caption under the player. “Listen to the full convo” or “Skip to 2:14 for the good stuff.” It ain’t scientific, but it feels right.
Sloppy Show Notes That Still Work
Every episode needs notes. I started out messy. Just bullet points. A quote here. A link there. Didn’t think it’d matter.
But surprise—Google noticed. Started indexing the show notes like real content. So I added some keywords (not too many—nobody likes that). Gave each episode a decent meta description. Guess what?
I ranked for questions I didn’t even know I’d answered.
Talk on Someone Else’s Show = Sneaky Smart
Don’t wanna start a podcast? Be on someone else’s. I tried this by accident when a friend invited me. It led to a backlink. Then another. Then more.
Now every time I guest, I ask: “Hey, mind linkin’ back to my site in the notes?” Most say yes. No hassle.
That’s free SEO juice, my friend. And people will Google you after hearing you. Especially if you don’t sound boring.
I Sent My Show Everywhere—Didn’t Even Know What I Was Doing
Apple Podcasts? Done. Spotify? Yup. Podbean, Stitcher, something called Castbox? Threw it in there too.
Most of ‘em gave me backlinks. Even if tiny. They added up.
You’d be shocked how many podcast platforms scrape your info, throw in links, and help your site climb just by being listed.
I mean it. Registering your podcast feels dumb at first, but it’s low-effort. Do it once, forget it forever.
Schema… Sounds Complicated, But Eh, Not Really
I heard about podcast schema markup and my eyes glazed over. Techy stuff. But then I tried it. Google saw my episodes better. Gave me lil’ rich results—like episode duration and titles in search.
Used some online generator. Copy, paste, done. Didn’t even know if I was doing it right. Apparently I was.
Did my clicks go up? Yep. Did I understand why? Not totally. Still worth it.
Encourage People To Do Things—Literally Just Ask
I started sayin’ stuff like “Share this if it helped ya” or “Rate this thing, please.” People did.
When someone leaves a review or shares your episode? That’s activity. Engagement. Algorithms eat that for lunch.
Kinda like magic, really. One dude posts my episode on LinkedIn, I get 40 new visitors. I’m like—wow. Thanks, internet stranger.
Stats? I Peek. Not Obsess
I don’t live in Google Analytics. But once in a while? I check.
Episodes that got longer listens? They tend to rank better too. Ones people bounce out of fast? Meh, I don’t bother repromotion.
If a podcast flops, I either delete it or repurpose the content into a better post. I don’t waste time praying for old stuff to suddenly go viral.
TL;DR: Your Voice Helps Your Site Rank—Weird But True
Didn’t expect podcasting to help my SEO. But it did. And keeps doing it. You talk into a mic, and the ripple effect goes deep.
SEO ain’t just text anymore. It’s experience. Authority. People trust voices more than faceless blog posts. When they hear you speak, they Google you. And when they Google you, your SEO wins.
So if you’re debating it—just start. Doesn’t need to be perfect. Record, transcribe, share, repeat.
That’s how I did it. Worked for me. Bet it’ll work for you too.
